A Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo today passed a judgement in favor of Chief Samaila Yakubu Young JP and 13 others vs Nigeria Police and two others.
Chief Samaila Yakubu and 13 others were illegally arrested three months ago without warrant or legal justification and were detained without bail.
After suing for Fundamental Rights Enforcement some weeks ago, the Federal High Court sitting for judgment today granted them unconditional bail and awarded twenty million naira to each plaintiff as damages for Human Rights violation.
The Judgment debtors include The Nigeria Police, Joe Fete and one other. Judgment is to take effect immediately.
The presiding judge frowned at the extra judicial and inhumane way they were treated and reiterated that the law is standing for the common and not a respecter of person.
