His Excellency Engr Haruna Manu today went on an ‘on the spot assessment’ of the places damaged by vandals/ hoodlums in the past few days.
The Deputy Governor who was in company of the SSG, Chief of staff, Speaker State House of Assembly, security Chiefs and other top government functionaries frowned at the incident and said “it is criminality to vandalise people’s hard end businesses, nothing could best define this asides wickedness”.
One of the places visited was the Hope Afresh skills Acquisition center Kona. commenting on the unfortunate incident he said this is a foundation that is meant to train the youths and by destroying it they equally are destroying themselves. Manu said they went as far as destroying even the buildings saying he was expecting that the youths should have been the ones to protect it but it was an unfortunate situation. when asked if the perpetrators will be allowed to go scot-free, the Deputy said Government won’t stay still until all those involved in the unlawful acts are tracked and brought to book.
How ever the deputy said it was to early to give a clear sense of way forward especially on the broadcasting facilities affected When asked by newsmen. He said the damage is enormous and said this is an act of criminality and govt is not sleeping over this until all those involved in this act are fished out. He said some of the business affected as that of Red star Academy Which belongs to Uche Obi is a business that employs even our own youths and this has rendered alot of youths jobless such also is that of AA Jugulde
Manu blamed that it was uncalled for, for any youth to get him or her self involve in this criminal act, he said even NYSC facilities which are meant to groom them were taken away and wonders what they aimed to achieve with that. He however commended the security agencies for taking measures in making sure that peace gradually returns to the state. He also applauded some youths who stood their grounds in making sure that some areas were not tempered with by repelling the vandals.
The Speaker state House of Assembly Rt Hon. Joseph Alkinjo also called for calm while speaking to news men, he said we must be able to recognise what Government is doing because it is to better the lives of its citizens. He agreed that the youths are the future leaders but what he saw has gone beyond future leaders because if it were as it were it should have been the youths that should protect these properties. He charged the securities to be up and doing in making sure maximum protection is accorded to the citizens and their properties.
Indeed the damages are enormous and will really affect hundreds of youths who are gainfully employed in some of this places, and most families who depends on this for their livelihood
